Baule Tribe
The Bola tribe is about 400,000 people who live in Africa in central Ivory Coast,
Tribes in West Africa have a long tradition of very rich wood carving abilities,
The carved items such as masks, statues, and wooden boards are used in temples and special ceremonies such as receiving important people, and dancing for a special grain season, as well as at funerals,
This mask was a big part of the tradition of the village of Kami at the beginning of the 20th century,
In the Bola tribe there are two special types of special entertainment masks, Goli, and Flood,
The Flood mask is an outfit in a costume with a traditional fabric which the wearer hides his face by a wooden mask.
While wearing the mask, the tribe dances, and conducts a special sketch series directly related to the tribe’s mitzvah, which includes a parody and battle stories.
When the items are not in use, they are hidden from the public eye and out of sight, so it turns out that these masks are only visible to the public during actual use.
