The DAN tribe
The Dan tribe, also known as the Gio or the Yakuba tribe, is an ethno-linguistic group of people who inhabit the mountainous city west-downtown and nearby areas of Liberia. The Dan belong to the southern region in the Manda linguistic subgroup of the Nigerian-Congo language family. Their actual origin is somewhere west or west of their present lands, probably among the Malinka (Mendingo).
The Danes are closely related to the Jara (also Najar buckwheat, or Guara) from the south.
The mask is large, with central motifs that symbolize the DAN tribe, the mask was used by the tribe in special dances, and at special receptions for important guests,,
