The first are gourd rattles: they are mainly used in ceremonies involving magic and religion. For this reason, they are often seen among wizards or followers of cults and other societies. The most common type is the gourd rattle, which uses the neck of the gourd as a handle. To create this rattle, the neck is slit and a stick is inserted into the resulting opening to act as a handle. Place plant cores or large seeds in the cavity before attaching the rod. By shaking the instrument, you can achieve a very penetrating sound while creating rhythmic patterns. It’s not uncommon for gourd rattles to be decorated with colorful (red, white and yellow) geometric patterns. The large round gourd is also often turned into a musical instrument by removing the flesh of the plant and replacing it with seeds, pebbles, pits, etc., and then closing the neck opening again. Unlike previous types, this gourd rattle is used for ensembles that accompany musical entertainment. The resulting sound is also much softer than the penetration of a rattle with a handle.
